Accreditation.

What is Accreditation?

Accreditation is the regulation of on-campus and off-campus accommodation at South African Universities which shall include the minimum norms and standards for the housing of University students. In the context of SU, accreditation shall prescribe the SU acceptable norms and standards with regards university accommodation to students which shall be at least the minimum norms as set out in the government gazette, ministerial papers and guidelines. In summary, SU student accommodation accreditation shall be the inspection and approval by SU of the accommodation offered, thereby certifying that the accommodation complies with the minimum criteria for student accommodation set by SU.

NSFAS Students

Students who have obtained NSFAS funding may only be accommodated in housing which meets the minimum standards requirements as set out in the Ministerial guidelines on The Minimum Norms and Standards for Student Housing at Public Universities.

Private student accommodation providers, who have elected not to accredit their accommodation, may not accommodate any National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) -funded students.</h3

  3. Landlord Declaration and Consent
  4. Property Registration Form

Once documents are received, the Letting Office will contact you for an inspection of the property. (Please familiarise yourself with the Department of Higher Education & Training (DHET’s) Ministerial guidelines gazetted on the Policy On The Minimum Norms And Standards For Student Housing At Public Universities

  • Accreditation notification will be sent
  • Your details will only appear on our website once you have been accredited and the once-off administration fee has been paid
  • An annual once-off administration fee will be payable by the landlord
  • Submit application to letting@sun.ac.za
